Winter is here, and your home needs extra care to stay safe, warm, and energy-efficient. Here’s a quick checklist to help you prepare:

  1. Inspect Your Heating System: Schedule a professional inspection to ensure your furnace or heat pump is working efficiently. Replace filters regularly for optimal performance.

  2. Seal Drafts: Check windows and doors for drafts. Use weatherstripping or caulk to seal gaps and keep the cold air out.

  3. Check Your Roof and Gutters: Remove debris from gutters to prevent ice dams. Inspect your roof for missing shingles or damage that could lead to leaks.

  4. Test Your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: With increased heating appliance use, ensure your detectors are functioning properly.

  5. Protect Your Pipes: Insulate exposed pipes to prevent freezing and bursting. Leave cabinets open in areas where pipes are located and keep your thermostat set above 55°F.

  6. Inspect Your Chimney: If you use a fireplace, have your chimney cleaned and inspected to prevent creosote buildup and reduce fire hazards.

By following this checklist, you’ll keep your home safe and cozy all winter long.
